![]() I have one stick slung over each shoulder and one in my hand. When I arrive at my tree, I hang the first stick from the ground. If it's my first time up a tree, it will certainly take me a little longer, but I usually hunt the same several trees depending on wind and I don't use the lineman's belt (I know that makes me stupid, but that is how I do it). I'm talking about the time from starting my climb to being ready to shoot. I couldn't even get to 20' using screw in steps in this time frame and I certainly could not do it as quietly. I'm not wanting to start an argument here, but I am in fact ready to shoot my bow in about 5 minutes. I got better at the whole mess as the season progressed, but its always a production. It also takes some time to prepare at the base of the tree before you start climbing.Īlso, you have to stack the sticks when you leave. Rope put in pack, linesman's belt put in pack, quiver taken off bow, arrow attached to bow, quiver hung in tree, etc. That means into the tree, lifeline attached, face paint applied, bow and jacket and fanny pack pulled up on the rope. I think I averaged about 12-15 minutes to be hunting. Its far bulkier and noisier than a couple pockets or a fanny pack full of tree steps. The system works good, but it is not the easiest, quietest and lightest way to hunt. The belt also has metal clamps which when hit by a climing stick makes noise. The linesman's belt takes time to adjust and attach and reattach if you have limbs on your tree. You are wearing a linesman's belt while applying the stick. Think about it, you have a stand on your back, plus you are slinging your sticks over your back too. You can do it quietly, but you have to be incredibly careful while climbing to be quiet. And don't believe the claims that they are incredibly quiet. If the tree is perfect with no limbs, maybe 10 minutes. I honestly don't believe people that say you can be up and hunting in 5 minutes. And I think a hangon with screw ins is still the quickest way up a tree. ![]() To me its a toss up what is easier between my Summit climber and the hang on with sticks. I bought an Alpha with 3 sticks this year. I don't know how old you are, but I am 46 and in better than average shape for my age. ![]()
